PCPS provides a variety of planning consultation services to municipalities and the private sector, specializing in municipal land use policy planning, site assessment and design and subdivision services.
PCPS has extensive rural, urban and intermunicipal planning experience in Alberta. PCPS planners utilize customized, practical planning processes to effectively address the purposes and issues involved in each planning project. Our planners work closely with communities (Councils, municipal administrators, landowners and interest groups) to achieve land use plans and policies that are supported by stakeholders and implementable by municipalities. In recognizing the importance of both economic and environmental sustainability, our plans pursue a sensitive balance of land development and resource conservation.
PCPS was established on April 1, 1995 as an Intermunicipal Services Agency under Section 625 of the Municipal Government Act to provide member municipalities, and other clients, with community planning advisory services. The 20 member municipalities include:
Birchcliff, Jarvis Bay, Norglenwold, Sunbreaker Cove
All of the municipalities were founding members. The Town of Sylvan Lake became a member in 1998/99.
The Board of Directors consists of five members who oversee the operation of PCPS. A representative from the City of Red Deer is appointed to the Board as the city is a major contributor to PCPS. The general membership elects two representatives from the Towns and two representatives from the Villages and/or Summer Villages to sit on the Board of Directors for a one year term.
